The other day Max and I went to Courtney's (my sis-in-law) to hang out for the day, but when we knocked on the door no one answered. We knocked again, waited, nothing. So, I called her home phone, left a message. Then, I called her cell phone and left a message. With no luck finding Courtney or Lucas, I turned to Max and said, "No body's home. Guess we have to get back in the car."
He looked at me, smiled, and asked, "What?"
So, I told him again, "No body's home."
Once again he smiled, and then started walking to the car saying, "No body's home, no body's home."
"That's right!" I exclaimed. Happy to hear him learn another word and phrase.
There we sat in the car waiting to see if Aunt Courtney would come home before we had to drive back to Farmington.
While playing in the car I suddenly had a panicked thought that something could be wrong and Courtney and Lucas could be in trouble, or worse! dead lying in the house! So, I decided to try knocking again. I banged as hard as I could on the door, when, wait....what did I hear? Footsteps! Yes! She was coming down the stairs....she peeked out the window....ah, she opened the door! Freedom! We have arrived.
Later that night Max wanted to show Isaac his "new" toys that Aunt Courtney and Lucas had given him. I said, "Max, tell daddy who gave you those cars."
And, he proudly replied, "Nobody!" Stunned I crinkled my nose and asked, "What? Who gave you those cars?"
Max stated again, "Nobody cars mommy."
Ah, this time I realized what he meant. He was calling Aunt Courtney "nobody," not because he didn't think she was deserving of a name or of recognition, but because I had told him that we were at "No body's house" yesterday and that's who gave him his treasured cars, "nobody." Ha!
Since then we've been working on saying "Aunt Courtney."
